Transperformativity
Capturing the Power of Performance Through Film
At Lavanda Films, we had the privilege of filming TransPerformativity at the Nottingham Contemporary Theatre — a groundbreaking live performance that merges transgender experiences, contemporary art, and immersive audiovisual storytelling. This evolving project explores transformation, identity, and collective expression through movement, light, and sound.
Our role was to document the performance with cinematic precision, producing a suite of high-quality videos designed to resonate across platforms — from short-form highlights to long-form video content for websites and exhibitions. Each frame was crafted to reflect the emotional depth, creative direction, and cultural significance of the performance.
Through thoughtful cinematography and sensitive visual storytelling, we captured the show’s innovative scenography, bold costume design, and evocative lighting — all amplifying underrepresented voices across the transgender spectrum. The performance featured creative direction by Aura, with Millie Quick, Mika Onyx Johnson, Jetsün Shenkyong-ma, and Sol Santana, representing a vibrant spectrum of gender identities and performance styles.
Each video was produced in both horizontal and vertical formats, optimised for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and online press. This approach ensures the artist and creative team can effectively market the show on tour, build anticipation for future performances, and strengthen funding proposals with high-quality visual documentation that communicates the project’s artistic and social impact.
At Lavanda Films, we specialise in performance videography, arts documentation, and social-first content creation that brings your vision to life. Whether you’re an independent artist, a theatre company, or a cultural organisation, we help you translate your live performance into compelling digital content that engages audiences and strengthens your artistic brand.
