Wild Service:
The River Roding

Documentary Videography with Right to Roam

Lavanda Films is proud to present Wild Service: The River Roding, a short documentary created in collaboration with Right to Roam, exploring community-led environmental action and the growing movement to reconnect people with the natural world.

Right to Roam campaigners restoring access to land and rivers in East London – Lavanda Films documentary

Filmed across East London, this project follows local volunteers, campaigners, and the Right to Roam collective as they bring the Wild Service movement to life along the River Roding — reviving forgotten landscapes, restoring access to public spaces, and inspiring collective care for the land.

Capturing Environmental Activism through Cinematic Storytelling

At Lavanda Films, we approached this project with a strong focus on environmental documentary filmmaking — combining drone cinematography, and authentic on-location storytelling to bring audiences closer to the movement.

Through the lens of Wild Service, the film weaves together science, community, and indigenous ecological wisdom, highlighting the urgency of restoring biodiversity and connection. Against the backdrop of a UK that ranks among the lowest in Europe for nature connectedness, this documentary captures a hopeful response — one led by people determined to protect and rewild their local landscapes.

The film also explores themes from Right to Roam’s acclaimed book Wild Service, which calls for collective action, access to land, and a new culture of ecological belonging.

Lavanda Films continues to collaborate with grassroots organisations and artists to produce documentary films that inspire change and social engagement.
