Wild Service: The River Roding

Lavanda Films is proud to present the short documentary "Wild Service: The River Roding", following the Right to Roam campaign and local volunteers on their mission to bring the Wild Service movement into the hearts and minds of the East London River Roding community.

Filmed with a focus on local environmental activism, this documentary captures the essence of the Right to Roam campaign as it advocates for humanity’s reconnection with nature. In May 2022, a groundbreaking study by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences revealed that the UK ranked last in biodiversity, wellbeing, and nature connectedness among fourteen European countries. With this knowledge, Wild Service emerges as a visionary concept aiming to tackle both humanity’s disconnection and nature's degradation.

Our team at Lavanda Films captured the journey of these guerilla guardians through immersive drone videography, event filming, and cinematic storytelling. This short documentary blends science, nature writing, and indigenous philosophy, highlighting the passionate individuals who, despite not owning the land they protect, work tirelessly to restore it. The Right to Roam's co-authored book Wild Service is also explored, emphasising the importance of collective action and nature restoration.
